Lift Schools is the admissions authority for our school. Applications for places will be made in accordance with the local authority’s coordinated admission arrangements. These should be submitted using the Common Application Form and will be administered by the applicant’s home local authority.
The secondary school admission round for Year 7 places opens in September each year, with a statutory national closing date on 31 October. Late applications may affect a child’s chances of securing a place.
Applications can be made online via your local authority’s admissions website. Please note that some local authorities do not send letters to parents about making an application, so we recommend checking their website for full details.
Our Open Evening for prospective students and their families takes place in early October. We encourage everyone to attend, but if you are unable to do so, we may be able to offer alternative tour dates. Please contact us to arrange a visit.
National Offer Day, when school places are confirmed, falls in March. Any objections to the determined admission arrangements should be submitted to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator (OSA).

If you would like to apply for a place at Maltings Academy outside of the Main Round, also go to Essex County Council website to download the secondary school mid-year application form. Forms need to be downloaded to be completed and should then be returned to the school, by email midyearadmissions@liftmaltings.org, post or by handing them in at reception.
If you are unable to download the form, please email the Mid Year Admissions Team who can arrange for one to be posted to you. Please note that Page 3 (information from the current/previous school) MUST BE completed for the application to be considered.
Once we have the completed application form the team will be in contact with you to book you a tour of the academy. Please note this will be a general tour and there may not be the opportunity to meet individual members of staff such as the SENCO.
Waiting Lists
Waiting lists (expression of continued interest) for Main Round and Mid-Year Applications are held at the school. All applicants held on the waiting list are ranked by line of distance irrespective of the date of application.
Applications for Year 7 places must be made through the Local Authority’s admissions process. The admissions round for September 2026 entry opens on 12 September 2025, with a closing date of 31 October 2025. We encourage families to attend our Open Evening to meet staff and explore the facilities. National Offer Day is on 2 March 2026, when parents will be notified of the outcome of their application.
If your application for a place is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal the decision. Appeals should be submitted in writing within 20 school days of receiving the refusal notice. Appeals will be heard by an independent panel, and you will have the opportunity to present your case.
